SAP calculations are an integral part of the design process and are required as part of your full plans application for Building Regulation approval, i.e. the initial ‘as-designed’ SAP is required before work starts on site.

The calculation takes into account the following factors which contribute to energy efficiency:

• Thermal insulation of the building fabric (walls, floor, roof and glazing)
• Thermal bridging
• Air permeability
• Mechanical ventilation
• Heating system efficiency, controls and water flow temperature
• Hot water system
• The fuel used to provide space and water heating
• Renewables
